I may not be able to see, I may not be able to walk
I may be different, and quite possibly not able to talk.
Though you say I don’t belong, just give me a try;
Because everyone deserves a chance to fly.
I may know what’s right, I may know what’s best
But let's not make my life one big test.
I might be bright, I might be impaired
But like you, I have skills that need to be shared.
The world, you say, are doing all that they can
With charities and societies being their master plan.
Yet my life is a constant struggle with family and friends;
And I still haven’t been able to connect the ends.
You might think I’m dumb, you might think I’m lazy
But come on, isn't that just a little bit crazy?
You say I’m like the ugly duckling, all wrapped in batter,
But being different is not bad, nor fun for that matter.
Yet we all must learn not to judge or be unkind
Because in today’s society no one should be left behind.
You say I should die, you say it will ease the pain
But let me tell you straight that there is nothing to gain.
The world has changed, you and I are just the same,
So don’t say sorry, you are not the only one to blame.
You shouldn’t say things that will hurt or discriminate,
As it will only make us feel like second rate.
We must learn to get along and be one big family
Just like society, we need to take care of humanity.
You think that everyone should be the same;
But come on, isn’t that just a little bit lame?
We are all different, and don’t share the same disability,
Yet we need to learn and respect each one’s own ability.
