Its nineteen-forty-one, and the German army are getting closer by the day. Pushing towards Moscow. Janis Elyat, a Latvian Jew, is fearing for his own life. Knowing that he might be captured soon he decides to hide within the Russian army. But beaten, he finds himself on route to a concentration camp in Byelorussia. Fearing that this could be the end he sits and waits for the war to come to an end. Not knowing whether he will make it out alive.

Four years later and it seems that God is on his side, now liberated from another camp, he tries and gets his life back on track. However, he has returned to Latvia to find that not all is the same as it was before. And again, facing hardship and persecution from within his own country. Sentenced again, he finds himself back fighting for his own life.

This is the story of his journey and how he survived through several years of hardship and brutality. And how one man and his faith of survival has kept him going, despite that in one command his life could have been ended.
