Many seamen throughout the centuries have sworn that they have seen it, that through the mist and dark waters of Cape Horn the island of Tierra del Mar Verde loomed out from nowhere. They saw the towering peaks rising from the icy water below, they saw the desert that covered the low lying land and they saw the green sea that filled the middle. Sailors would gather in small pubs and bars - Taverns, talking of such tales. In tiny lit lantern rooms they would whisper, in husked voices, of the many things that they have seen. Speaking of the island and the doomed ship - The Ålander; and its captain Ölandersen.
How Ölandersen and his crew were bound to travel the seas, to mysterious lands, to navigate the unknown world that they called home. From the cold arctic north of deep fjords and ice to the Mediterranean straits of the far east; and through the dark stormy waters of Cape Horn. The Ålander, an old wooden boat with its nordic style and large sails was doomed to roam these waters for eternity. Its sighting cursing all those who dare cross its path. Those who saw it, knew their fate, knew that death was near. Knew that they would see the mysterious island too.
Tierra del Mar Verde!
From the darkness it loomed out of the water like a large iceberg, the mist swirled around the top of the forest and high peaks of the north. Its crystal clear waters glistened in the moonlight and the white sand blew in the strong gale. A hummer of sounds echoed all around the island, calling out to mariners who dared to look for it. Like the people who came before, and those ever since, would tell stories of the Ålander and of the island. They would look up to the sky, where twinkling lights flickered in the vast empty blackness, and wonder. What evil deed, man or God, or nature. What nemesis doomed them and the stricken ship to roam the land and seas for eternity?
